OUR MINISTRIES
Christ the King Lutheran Church, LCMC, in the Riverchase community of Hoover, is honored to offer a range of ministries to help you grow closer to God in your earthly journey. Here are some of our opportunities:
Prayer and Healing
We are strong believers in the power of prayer. We host small, dedicated prayer and healing services at 5 pm on the 2nd Sunday of each month in The Luther Room. In addition, we have prayer and healing quarterly, the first Sunday at 8:00 am and the second Sunday at 10:40 am. These times are dedicated to praying for and praying over both you and your life challenges. We have corporate prayer as a church family in our worship services, helping us communicate with our Heavenly Father in sincere acts of worship.
Prayer Summits take place on the first Friday of each month from 7 pm-9 pm with a focus on praying together and learning to pray!
Senior Adults
Our fellowship of believers loves each other with a steadfast love, and our senior adults are cherished. This is one of our most active groups, meeting each Sunday and several times a month.
Sunday School
Sunday School at CtK is a great chance to connect and get to know the members of our church. There's something for everyone, including preschoolers, youth, individuals, families and seniors. We would love the honor of helping you find the perfect group. Sunday School classes begin at 9:20 am each week, between the 8:00 am and 10:40 am worship services.
Youth & Children
Whether you have one child or ten, there's a spot for them at CtK. Susan Dearing is our Youth Education Director. She is committed to helping your children walk closer to God and know they are chosen and loved. Please join us on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, and also learn about other activities.
Music
Our music is as diverse as our worship service styles. There's a style to fit every need at CtK. Dr. Rosemary Johnson leads our team of worship leaders, including an adult choir, praise band, handbells and more. We offer traditional music at our 8:00 am service and contemporary at our 10:40 am service. Looking for something different? Our 5:00 pm service is strictly contemporary and is our most informal worship.

Missions and Outreach
At Christ the King, we know our mission is to live out the Great Commission, and being a part of the conservative LCMC (Lutheran Churches in Missions for Christ), we believe it is our top priority to spread the gospel of Christ wherever we can. We take yearly mission trips to places like Mexico and Honduras. We support the church planting of Beachside Community Church in Palm Coast, Fla., near Jacksonville.
The Missions Committee would like to share with you some of the local ministries that our church is involved with. If you would like to have more information about any of these opportunities please contact the persons indicated below or any member of the missions committee.
Christian Service Mission - connects people with needs to people with the resources to meet those needs. We have supported them financially with our Mission Challenge in the past couple of years. We have also assisted the team from Redeemer Lutheran Church in Maryland when they help refurbish homes and work on other projects. CSM has a huge warehouse in downtown Birmingham and can always use people to sort donations. They have many seasonal programs where they reach out to the community for Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, etc. This would be a great opportunity for you as an individual or your small group to work on a local mission on a regular basis. There is always something to be done.

The Firehouse Shelter - provides to homeless men a nurturing and caring environment and offers supportive services that beak the cycle of homelessness and empower individuals on achieve their highest potential. We cook and serve a meal at the Firehouse Shelter on the third Friday of even numbered months.

Community Grief Support - provides a place for bereaved adults to learn to deal with the challenge of rebuilding their lives without their loved ones.

Oak Mountain Missions - provides food, clothing, household items, linens, furniture and limited financial assistance to persons referred from area churches, domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters and social service agencies. Monetary donations are always appreciated and furniture and food item donations. Volunteers are also needed to help sort and distribute donated items.

Jail Ministry - brings the message of God's saving grace to inmates of Jefferson County jails in downtown Birmingham and Bessemer. Training and materials are provided.

First Priority - a nonprofit organization that works with churches, educators, parents and students to share the hope of Christ with students. Volunteers meet with students before school to teach them to know and do what "Jesus said". They read scripture to learn what Jesus said, they see how his teaching changes them, they learn how to live out his teachings in the real world, and they encourage each other to tell others about Jesus.

Young Life - provides the opportunity for adolescents to meet Jesus Christ and follow him by building personal relationships with them and helping them develop the skills, assets and attitudes to reach their God-given potential.

Community Food Bank - operates as a clearing house for collecting food that might otherwise be wasted. Food usually comes from grocery stores, farmers, and wholesalers, food that could otherwise be thrown away. Volunteers sort and pack food into ready to go boxes that are then distributed to non-profit hunger relief charities such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, domestic violence shelters, and residential facilities for the elderly and people with disabilities.
